Tuesday, January 16

Happy Tuesday! The past week brought multiple weather-related challenges to southwest Connecticut —from high tide flooding to torrential rain and even some snow. We highlighted the effects of the three latest storms, including coastal flooding in areas like Water Street in Norwalk and Fairfield Beach Road in Fairfield—and looked ahead for forecasts for the season.

Stamford

The Parks and Recreation Commission will meet on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:30 p.m. and hear a presentation from Senior Planner Erin McKenna on the work the city is doing related to trees, including an update on grants for planting and maintaining trees and how the planned mapping of trees is going. Learn more about the importance of trees to southwest Connecticut.

Norwalk

On Tuesday, January 16, the Ordinance Committee of the Common Council will meet at 7 p.m. The committee will discuss and vote on updates to the city’s blight prevention ordinance as well as on a commission that will be tasked with redistricting the city’s five Council districts.

The Flood and Erosion Control Board will meet on Tuesday, January 16 at 7 p.m. and discuss the town’s new 2024 “Master Flood Mitigation and Resilience Plan” as well as updates on the plans at Penfield Pavilion. Learn more about the history of the pavilion

Greenwich

There will be a Central Middle School Community Engagement Forum on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m. where members of the public are invited to hear from the project team working on the school construction project and see the building and campus design.

The Board of Finance will meet on Tuesday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m. to review and vote on a request to spend $30,000 on station platform shelters at the Darien train station.
