The What: Street Safety in Connecticut, Stamford 2035, and more
The What is your look around southwest Connecticut for the week of September 30.
Monday, Sept. 30
Happy Monday! We’re highlighting our Getting Around series as communities continue to look at improving their roads and streets.
Highlights
This section will give a brief overview of the key items in the newsletter.
- Our Getting Around series explores some of the challenges on southwest Connecticut roads; how some communities are looking to reimagine their streets to make them safer for all users; and what some ongoing projects are.
- Stamford is kicking off its 10-year planning process—Stamford 2035—which is a “once-in a decade opportunity to take stock of the state of the city and ask fundamental questions about its future.”
- Both Stamford and Norwalk are hosting meetings about school construction projects in their communities this week. Check out our reporting on school construction across the region.
Spotlight
This section will feature our main reporting each week.
With more conversations continuing across southwest Connecticut, we thought it would be a good time to feature our Getting Around series. For years walkability and pedestrian safety have been buzzwords across the region, but at that same time pedestrian and traffic-related deaths have soared across the county and Connecticut as a whole.
As our local communities are reimagining their streets and redesigning some of the most troublesome intersections in the region, we decided to dive into pedestrian and roadway safety issues and highlight some of the solutions local officials are working on.
