Monday, July 6

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great July 4th holiday and got to spend time with family and friends. We definitely did! This is a slightly abridged newsletter this week, focused mostly on upcoming meetings as it’s a relatively busy week for July. We’ll have new reporting next week.

Highlights

This section gives a brief overview of the key items in the newsletter.

  • ICYMI—if you’re back commuting today, your Metro North ticket price is more expensive.
  • In Stamford, the Board of Finance will review a $400,000 contract with Stantec Consulting to design pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements for Washington Boulevard, one of the deadliest roads in the region.
  • In Norwalk, the city administration will give a presentation outlining recent workforce reductions that were made at the Board of Estimate & Taxation meeting.
  • In Westport, the Planning & Zoning Commission will get a look at proposed plans for 606 Riverside Avenue that call for bringing 165 units to the site, which was a part of the failed Hamlet plans.

Spotlight

This section features our main reporting each week.

ICYMI: Metro North commuters are now seeing higher ticket prices, which began on July 1

“These fare increases will help maintain existing rail service levels by keeping the same number of trains on the schedule for our customers,” Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said in a statement.

Our article includes a table breaking down all the fare increases for our region, or you can watch our video to learn more about the hikes.
