Metro North Fares to Increase on July 1
This is the second fare increase for Metro North riders, following one in September.
Heads up commuters! For train riders across lower Fairfield County, ticket prices are going up starting on July 1. Riders will see a 5% increase in their tickets.
The increases stem from the 2026-2027 state budget, which included a two-part fare hike that officials said would “avoid reductions to service levels.”
Ticket prices went up 5% on September 1, 2025 and now will be increasing another 5% in July.
“These fare increases will help maintain existing rail service levels by keeping the same number of trains on the schedule for our customers,” Connecticut Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said in a statement.
Officials said in a report done in advance of the hike that fares are “a critical source of revenue to CTDOT and its service providers’ ability to operate a safe and reliable transportation system, while helping to support rising costs.”
During public outreach ahead of the hikes, CTDOT said it received 34 comments which were in general “unsupportive of fare increases for various reasons,” including the fact that tickets are already expensive and service to some stations has been reduced, especially in the off-peak times.
Here’s a look at some of the fare increases that will impact riders in our region.
