Happy Monday! It was another wet one this week so hopefully you all stayed as safe and dry as possible.Let’s see what’s happening this week.  

Highlights

  • We’ve got the latest updates from the South Norwalk, Greenwich, and Stamford stations, as a part of our ongoing All Aboard series. 
  • Somehow, even though it’s only September, budget season is kind of starting. In Norwalk, there will be a Special Meeting and Joint Public Hearing of the Finance and Claims Committee on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. where the city and Board of Education will give an overview of what they’re expecting this budget season and residents can give their initial thoughts. In Greenwich, the Board of Education Budget Committee will meet on Friday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. to discuss the plans for the upcoming operating and capital budgets. 
  • In Stamford, the Legislative and Rules Committee will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. and review an ordinance to establish an “urban grocery store development district” as well as review the proposed lease with Domus Kids to “re-imagine the Glenbrook Community Center located at 35 Crescent Street for mixed-use development & community space.” Learn more about the history of the Glenbrook Community Center.

The train stations across southwest Connecticut—and the areas around them—are seeing massive changes, from new developments to improved infrastructure. Our ongoing All Aboard series dives deeper into each of these stations, but as things are changing all the time, we thought it would be a good idea to give a few quick updates on some development activity at stations we’ve previously covered. 

Here’s the quick rundown of what’s happening at the South Norwalk, Greenwich, and Stamford stations.

  • South Norwalk: Construction has been intense at the South Norwalk station with work ongoing at the latest apartment complex right next to the station. In addition, at the station, the Parking Authority voted at its September meeting to advance a proposal for a new tenant at the station called “SoNo Junction Coffee.” The concept comes from Jeff Taibe, the owner of Bar Bushido, a relatively new and popular addition to the Wall Street area, and was inspired by the Japanese grab-and-go concepts. 
  • Greenwich: One of the key improvements is a 5,000-square-foot restaurant located at the corner of Railroad Avenue. The restaurant was initially approved for 112 seats, but the applicant is back in front of the Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. to ask for an increase. The new plans call for 130 seats and an additional 20-seat bar, bringing the overall total to 150 seats. Attorney Michele Cronin, representing the applicant, said in a letter to the commission that after multiple conversations with prospective restaurant operators, the increase was needed to make the space viable. 
  • Stamford: Last year, we reported that the state wanted to “transform the Stamford Transportation Center,” into “a world-class multimodal public transportation hub” featuring housing, retail, and commercial space. Since then, the Connecticut Department of Transportation said it has “solicited proposals from private developers with the interest and capacity to undertake” this project. Right now, officials said that negotiations are ongoing and “updates will be posted later in 2026.”

Bridgeport

Featured Meeting: There will be a Joint Committee on Contracts and Economic and Community Development and Environment meeting on Monday, Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. to review the proposed land development agreement for 157 and 171 Golden Hill Street. 

Stamford

Featured Meetings: The Legislative and Rules Committee will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The committee will review an ordinance to establish an “urban grocery store development district. In addition, the committee will review the proposed lease with Domus Kids to “re-imagine the Glenbrook Community Center located at 35 Crescent Street for mixed-use development & community space.” Learn more about the history of the Glenbrook Community Center. Also, there will be a Coffee and Conversation with Superintendent Talley on Thursday, Oct 1 at 7 p.m. for members of the community to meet with the school district’s leader and share how the district can continue to improve. 

Norwalk

Featured Meetings: There will be a Special Meeting and Joint Public Hearing of the Finance and Claims Committee on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. where the city and Board of Education will give an overview of what they’re expecting this budget season and residents can give their initial thoughts. Also on Tuesday, Sept. 29, there will be a Norwalk 2050 Community Workshop at 6 p.m. where residents can weigh in on a “Norwalk 2050 Sustainability and Resilience Roadmap, which is a long-term plan to guide how our city grows stronger, healthier, more prosperous, and prepared for the future.”

Fairfield

Featured Meeting: The Representative Town Meeting will meet on Monday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. and vote on accepting a grant for $6,000 to go toward the “Shining Light on Truth” project that is “intended to raise awareness of and educate the public about the contributions of Fairfield's community of people of African ancestry, including through the design, fabrication, and installation of historical markers and related educational materials at Town-owned sites.” 

Greenwich

Featured Meetings: The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. and host a public hearing on a plan to increase the size of the restaurant on Railroad Avenue as a part of the renovated Greenwich train station and the area around it. The plans call for increasing the number of dining seats from 112 to 130 and adding a 20-seat bar area. Explore the Greenwich train station improvements and the surrounding area. Also this week,  the Board of Education Budget Committee will meet on Friday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. to discuss the plans for the upcoming operating and capital budgets. 

Darien

Featured Meeting: The Representative Town Meeting will meet on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and hear from the First Selectman who will give an update on improving government efficiency as well as the latest on Great Island’s financials. 

Westport

Featured Meeting: On Thursday, Oct. 1, there will be a Westport Comprehensive Beach Resiliency Plan- Public Forum at 6:30 p.m. Residents are invited to hear an update on the plans for improving resiliency at Westport’s beaches including existing site conditions and what regulatory requirements there might be for making improvements.
