Last week, the Connecticut Siting Council delayed a vote on United Illuminating’s plans to replace transmission lines along the Metro North tracks in Fairfield and Bridgeport. 

According to CT Mirror, the council tabled the issue to “allow more time to study alternative routes.” Governor Ned Lamont had asked the council to delay its vote, noting that he “was meeting behind the scenes with United Illuminating, about a compromise,” CT Mirror reported.

In education news around the region, the Stamford Planning Board will receive a presentation on the plans for a new Westfield High School. The project has been the subject of debate in front of the Board of Finance due to escalating costs.

  • In Bridgeport, the Board of Education will meet on Monday, Sept. 22 to receive an update on the progress made in regards to the state’s intervention in the district as well as set goals for the interim superintendent.
  • In Stamford, the Planning Board will meet on Monday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. to receive a presentation on the plans for a new Westfield High School. 
  • Also in Stamford, the Public Safety & Health Committee will meet on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. and review the city’s efforts to address air quality issues, particularly in the South End. See why air quality continues to be a challenge around southwest Connecticut. 
  • In Norwalk, the city is hosting a Joint Public Hearing Regarding Operating and Capital Budgets between the Board of Education and the Common Council on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
  • Also in Norwalk, there will be a Tree Removal Public Hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. related to the proposed removal of a tree located on Cemetery Street.   
  • In Darien, the Board of Finance is meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. to vote on  “appropriating $2,300,000 for planning and design of the Great Island early access project.”
  • In Westport, even though the Planning and Zoning Commission voted against The Hamlet project, there will be a Representative Town Meeting Special Meeting on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. to review the decisions from the Flood and Erosion Control Board and Conservation Commission to give the project the ok. Residents had petitioned the RTM to review their decisions under the town’s “Waterway Protection Lines Ordinance.”
