Happy Monday! We’ve had a sick kiddo over here the past week so the newsletter is a little shorter this week. 

Highlights

  • As we covered last week, heads up to commuters—particularly those on the Danbury branch as there are no trains for the next two weeks. 
  • Stamford and Fairfield are discussing how to replace their local leaders who passed away last month. Stamford’s Board of Representatives will meet on Monday, August 4 and discuss replacing President Jeff Curtis, while Fairfield’s Board of Selectmen will meet on Tuesday, August 5 and discuss replacing First Selectman Bill Gerber.

  • In Bridgeport, the Board of Education will meet on Monday, August 4 at 6:30 p.m. and review the findings from a state-mandated audit on the district’s financials and operations. The district said in a statement that the “audit is an important step toward building a stronger, more transparent, and more accountable school district. We take the findings and recommendations seriously, and we are carefully analyzing all aspects of the report before offering detailed comments or conclusions.” Residents can read the full audit online.
  • In Stamford, the Board of Representatives will meet on Monday, August 4 at 8 p.m. and both remember President Jeff Curtis and vote on his replacement after he passed away last month. 
  • In Norwalk, the Land Use & Building Management Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 6 at 7 p.m. and vote on sending the suggestion to name the new South Norwalk Elementary School after Ruby May Foster Shaw, Ph.D., a longtime Norwalk resident, educator, and community leader. 
  • Also in Norwalk, the Economic and Community Development Committee will meet on Thursday, August 7 at 7 p.m. and vote to advance numerous items, including funding for the planning and design of potential roadway improvements of Route 1, Cross St/North Ave, between Wilton Ave and East Ave; spending an additional $380,000 for Wall Street Corridor improvements; putting together a citywide community flood resilience plan, for a maximum of $192,500; and approving an agreement between the city and AGW Sono Partners for the “temporary occupation of 99 Washington Street to utilize the vacant office space.” 
  • In Fairfield, the Board of Selectmen will meet on Tuesday, August 5 at 4 p.m. to discuss and vote on replacing First Selectman Bill Gerber, who passed away last month.
  • In Darien, the Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, August 4 at 7 p.m. and discuss the Great Island Master Plan as well as the next steps for the island, including decommissioning the Great Island Advisory Committee.
