Monday, June 2

Happy Monday and happy June! We had a busy weekend with our 10-year college reunion, so no new reporting this week, but we'll be back with a new piece next week. In the meantime, it’s a busy week around southwest Connecticut, so let’s dive in.

Highlights

This section gives a brief overview of the key items in the newsletter.

  • Norwalk teachers and parents are upset with the superintendent’s proposed recommendations for getting the school district budget down to what was approved by the city. The Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. and vote on her recommendations for reconciling the budget.
  • In Stamford, the Board of Representatives will meet on Monday, June 2 at 8 p.m. and among other items, vote on a resolution affirming the city’s commitment to protecting transgender and nonbinary individuals. Representatives said they wanted to approve the resolution at this meeting because it is officially Pride Month.
  • There are charter revision related meetings happening this week in both Bridgeport and Fairfield

Spotlight

This section features our main reporting each week.

ICYMI: Just days after a new Save the Sound report was released outlining water quality at beaches in southwest Connecticut, some waters across the region were closed to swimming over Memorial Day weekend following heavy rains.

Check out our piece outlining some of the work that can be done to improve water quality or watch a previous video of ours on how water quality is measured in the Sound.
