All Aboard: Greenwich—Inside the $30 Million Train Station Renovation
Let's explore in and around the Greenwich train station, which will reopen at the end of December.
“Transformational.” That’s how First Selectman Fred Camillo recently described the $30 million renovation taking place at the Greenwich train station.
“I know everyone is eager to hear updates on the Greenwich Crossing project downtown that will not only give us a new train station but help beautify the area on Railroad Avenue,” Camillo wrote in his November 21 newsletter. “This project is transformational for the Railroad Ave area and the wait will be well worth it when it is completed in 2026!”
Located near the heart of downtown, the Greenwich train station is the busiest of four stations that are in the town itself, serving more than 4,000 passengers each day.
Since the updated station is scheduled to open at the end of the month, let’s go in and around the Greenwich Train Station.
Historic Public-Private Partnership
Since 1967, the town and the Ashforth Company, which owns the station, have had a public-private partnership related to the train station itself and the properties around it. In 2019, the town announced that they had restructured their agreement to allow for the redevelopment of the station and surrounding area.
"The Town of Greenwich and The Ashforth Company have had a successful public-private partnership for more than 50 years since the current train station, the Town commuter lot and the Greenwich Plaza office buildings were constructed. We are pleased to renew our partnership to revitalize this part of downtown and to modernize one of the major gateways to Greenwich," said former First Selectman Peter J. Tesei in a statement.

Inside the New Station and Area
At the heart of the project is a new train station that’s scheduled to open by the end of December. The new station aims to be a modern transportation center that features glass windows, small retail, additional seating for passengers, and more.
The project will be anchored by a new 5,000 square-foot “premier restaurant,” which will feature an expansive outdoor dining area. In addition, the local retail shops and stores along Railroad Avenue are undergoing construction work to update and enhance the spaces. Throughout the project area, there will be new pedestrian and commuter pathways and “improved access to the train platform,” to make it more accessible to users. There will also be enhanced street trees and landscaping around the area.
“We’re creating a brand-new, exciting experience for Greenwich residents and visitors alike,” said Ryan Harvey, CEO and president of the Ashforth Company at a groundbreaking ceremony in 2024. “We are thrilled that our expansive redevelopment, which we have named Greenwich Crossing, will completely transform and revitalize the train station and the surrounding retail, serving as an impressive and vibrant gateway to the heart of downtown Greenwich.”
Harvey said that he envisions Greenwich Crossing will become “an extension of Greenwich Avenue, one of the premier pedestrian shopping destinations in the region.”
“We are excited it will attract more visitors and business opportunities to the downtown area, contributing to the overall economic growth of Greenwich,” he said.
Camillo said that the work at the restaurant and the renovations to the stores are still ongoing.
“Citibank and Signature Cycles remain open and the renovations of the remaining retail storefronts will be completed in the coming months. The work on the restaurant structure will continue into early spring 2026,” he wrote in his newsletter.
Beyond this project, the area around the station is relatively built up, surrounded by existing businesses and just a few blocks from downtown. That’s why officials said that they hope the revitalized train station and area will be transformational to the area and serve as a gateway to the heart of the town’s community.
